Martinez has a fractured skull, but don’t worry too much

martinez1Joe Martinez remains hospitalized and will be placed on the DL after tests revealed three hairline fractures in his skull. Ouch. The Giants purchased the contract of Justin Miller from Triple-A Fresno to take his spot in the bullpen. While doctors will continue to monitor Martinez, he’s not complaining of much discomfort (seriously?) and will not require any medical procedures. This is certainly good news.

The better news is that you won’t have to scour the waiver wire to find a replacement for Martinez on your fantasy baseball roster, because unless you play in a 20-team, NL West-only league with a scoring system that counts holds, he’s probably not on your roster. You can go back to worrying about whether to start Scott Hairston or Emmanuel Burriss in your utility spot now. As CBS Sportsline puts it: “Luckily, Martinez isn’t much of a factor in Fantasy play and so don’t worry too much about his situation.”

Cold-blooded analysis, CBS Sportsline. Cold-blooded. Get well soon, Joe.
