C&E: May 3

BASB’s weekly baseball roundup from both sides of the Bay — and an excuse to post a photo of Crazy Crab knocking Stomper off a tricycle.
CRABS UP
Bengie Molina – The Giants’ husky backstop hits his first triple in two seasons, and fifth of his career, to help spark a 9-4 rout of the Dodgers. Brother Jose, who probably wouldn’t have believed it otherwise, even got to see it.
Beat L.A. – Taking two out of three from the Dodgers = two claws way up.
The Freakanchise – Let’s see: 23 IP, 16 H, 4 R, 23 SO, 4 BB in his last three starts. Yeah, he’s back.
CRABS DOWN
Silent Bats – Managed only five hits against Cy Young Jason Marquis, who had thrown only one complete game in the past three seasons.
Fred Lewis – After a strong start, he’s hitting under .200 in his last 10 games, was replaced in the field in the ninth inning on Friday, and sat out Saturday.

ELEPHANTS UP
Throwbacks – A’s rocked the Oakland Oaks throwbacks last night.
Ryan Sweeney – I glove you, man. Sweeney follows up his Web Gem of the Year nominee with this and this. What will he do next?
Matt Holliday – Oakland’s one year rent-a-bat hit his first homer of the season, reminding me why – for one swing, at least – I spent $40 on him in my AL-only auction draft.
Billy Beane – A’s GM takes time out of his schedule to answer questions at Fan House.
ELEPHANTS DOWN
Billy Beane – Declines to answer question about whether MLB should institute a salary cap.
Bob Geren – Beane probably wouldn’t have endorsed the skipper’s recent decision to have Dallas Buck bunt with Kurt Suzuki on second and nobody out. His decision to walk the bases loaded was even more egregious.
