Amare and the Bee

beeRamya Auroprem, the eighth-grader from San Jose who carried the weight of the Bay Area’s lofty expectations on her adolescent shoulders, had a good run at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. In the end, her latent disdain for Suns forward Amare Stoudemire contributed to her downfall. After breezing through the first 10 round, Auroprem was given the word “amarevole,” an Italian musical term, in the final round. Auroprem spelled it a-m-a-r-e-v-i-l-e.  Ding. Game over. Still, Auroprem finished as one of the top 7 spellers out of a Spelling Bee-record 293 contestants. Bravo, Ramya. You’ve brought more pride to San Jose than the Sharks ever have. Merc
