Bummer

FinalVoteWe anxiously awaited the results of MLB’s Final Vote competition. They weren’t pretty. In the end, the Bran-Torino voting alliance of Brandon Inge and Shane Victorino edged out Ian Kinsler and Pablo Sandoval for the final All-Star spots in the AL and NL, respectively. While the Tigers and Phillies encouraged business in Michigan and Pennsylvania to allow their employees time to vote for the hometown favorites, a large bloc of Sandoval voters was likely still asleep when voting ended at 1 p.m. PST.

Hawaii, meanwhile, may or may not have declared this Vote for Shane week and implored its residents to take off work to click the Flyin’ Hawaiian into his first All-Star game.

Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle made a friendly wager with Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell over which state could produce more votes for Victorino. If the Hawaiians played more of a role in the outcome than the Pennsylvanians, Rendell has promised to send cheesesteaks. Otherwise, Lingle will send eight cases of pineapples to Philly. Sandoval might prefer either one of those over a spot in the Midsummer Classic.

While Kung Fu Panda lost the vote, he could find himself in St. Louis next week anyway. Sandoval could get the nod to replace the injured Raul Ibanez or Carlos Beltran. We’ll keep you posted. Obviously.
