Cuban vs. Nelson: Who ya got?
More details of the 7-year spat between Warriors head coach Don Nelson and his former boss, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban came to light this week. Last July, a judge awarded Nelson $6.3 million in back wages and $800,000 for attorney fees, but Cuban has refused to pay. That’s a problem. Nelson has since sued, making the details of the case accessible to enterprising reporters.
Our favorite nuggets from the case files:
Nelson signed a contract with the Mavericks in 2003 only after his friends got him drunk and Cuban says he didn’t pay because he wanted Nelson to beg for the money.
The story sounds like something straight out of The Onion. Anyway, there’s only one way to solve this dispute. Nellie and Cuban square off in an epic game of beer pong streamed live on Cuban’s blog. If Nelson gets drunk enough, maybe he’ll sign a settlement and we can put this whole thing behind us.
