C&E: July 26

BASB’s weekly baseball roundup from both sides of the Bay — and an excuse to post a photo of Crazy Crab knocking Stomper off a tricycle.

CRABS UP

Cain is Able: The farm-raised Tennessee Stud improved to 12-2 on Saturday.

Zito In a Nutshell: The bottom of the 4th inning Thursday at Atlanta was a microcosm of Barry Zito’s season. Some good, some bad, and very expensive.

Home Sweet Home: The good news is that beginning Monday the Giants play 13 of their next 16 games at AT&T Park, where they’re 31-15 this season.

CRABS DOWN

Road Trippin’: The Giants finished 3-7 on their 10-game road trip to fall behind Colorado in the wild card race.

Sadowski Fest: Ryan Sadowski is struggling, man. The rookie was rocked in Atlanta and couldn’t get out of the third inning against the Rockies on Sunday. Is the Mad Bum ready for the show?

Dinger: We can only make fun of the Giants’ offensive ineptitude (one home run – one! – on the road trip) so many times, so let’s pile on the Rockies’ appropriately named mascot, Dinger.

ELEPHANTS UP

Creamy: Rickey rocked his cream-colored suit like a letter-high fastball.

A’s Fans in Cooperstown: A’s faithful, including Rickey’s No. 1 fan, shared in the joy of his induction ceremony. We can’t wait for the photos.

Speech: Rickey never referred to himself in the third person, but he told a few memorable anecdotes, hit the right notes, and delivered a fine 14-minute induction speech. “It’s the fans that makes the games fun,” Henderson said. “To all the fans, thank you, thank you, thank you, for all your wonderful support over all these years.” No, Rickey, thank you.

ELEPHANTS DOWN

Vets Over Rookies: The A’s called up prospect Eric Patterson to fill Matt Holliday’s roster spot in the outfield, immediately bench him against a tough lefty.

More Injury to Insult?: The A’s dropped the series finale, 7-5, to the Yankees on Sunday. First baseman Daric Barton left the game in the fifth inning with a strained hamstring.

Back to Boston: The A’s return to Fenway Park for the second Nomah homecoming in the last 3 weeks.
