Ryan Garko, come on back now

ryan-garkoThe Giants’ massive, indomitable bat acquired via blockbuster trade is … Ryan Garko. Well, he’s a Stanford guy, so that’s nice. Remember when he hit .400? Datwasawesome.

The Giants got a much-needed win behind 15 Tim Lincecum strikeouts after an emotional ceremony honoring former owner and team Mom Sue Burns. After the game, Randy Winn said he didn’t know much about Ryan Garko. What? We have to remedy that.

  • Garko earned the nickname “Bud” at Stanford after (jokingly) telling a KZSU announcer to call him “Budding Superstar” Ryan Garko.
  • He has a quite punnable name.
  • He loves Jim Rome, calls his show often, and apparently texts him frequently.
  • He originally played catcher and the Indians moved him to first base. This year the Indians had him play outfield, and the experiment was, by all accounts, disastrous. In one game he “brutally misplayed” a ball and that led to a tiff between pitcher Cliff Lee and manager Eric Wedge over player positioning.

Welcome, Ryan. Back.
