Have a year Eli Whitesell, er, Whiteside
Catch a no-hitter. Check. Hit a game-winning grand slam for your first career home run in the midst of a wild card race. Check. What will Eli Whiteside do next? Whatever it is, maybe the press box announcer will get his name right when it happens. The former sixth-round pick of the Orioles in 2001 out of Delta State University doubled his career RBI total with yesterday’s slam off of Brian Moehler in the Giants’ 10-6 win at Houston. Joe Martinez, making his first start since a line drive fractured his skull – now that is pain – on April 9, earned the win.
It’s easy to see why Whiteside is such a stud. Just check out these hitting mechanics on YouTube. Tremendous Photoshop is from the Fresno Grizzlies’ Mad Tight ’90s Night promotion.
