UPDATE: Say hello to the California Redwoods.
Please let this be true. On the day that the UFL is scheduled to announce the nickname of San Francisco’s franchise comes the report that the Rockfish may be gutted and replaced by the Redwoods. According to UFL Access, the UFL recently trademarked “San Francisco Redwoods,” perhaps after realizing that, no, Rockfish really isn’t a good idea for a nickname. We certainly prefer Redwoods. The team could even borrow the Stanford Tree as a mascot.
The league also trademarked “California Redwoods,” but the trademarking of a graphical “SF” would seem to indicate that the league will go ahead with the San Francisco moniker. Alternatively, they could be called the California Redwoods of San Francisco. Or the San Francisco Rockwoods. California Redfish? An official announcement is expected at 11 a.m. PST. Stay tuned!
