Tom Cable will fight you
We have no plans to change our slogan to “Dropping assistant coaches for motivation” and Tom Cable still can’t rival the Dos Equis pitchman, but if today’s reports that the Raiders head pugilist coach went Romanowski are true, he just became a whole lot more interesting and badass. We should probably throw ’stupid’ in there, too.
FanHouse reported that Cable sent assistant coach Randy Hanson to the hospital with a punch to the jaw during an altercation on August 5. One of their sources said Hanson “never saw it coming.” That makes most of us. Cable refused to comment on the issue, saying only that it was an internal issue that would be addressed. Hanson refused to name the attacker and opted not to press charges.
Chronicle beat writer David White tweeted from Napa that Raiders players were “doing the Ali-Frasier chant” for Cable while stretching. “Cable, Bumaye!” they chanted, which White later explained translates to “Cable, kill him.” Yes, this is a crazed franchise we’re talking about.
Let’s hope Cable and Hanson can make amends with a post-training camp trip through wine country like the characters in Sideways.
