The Giants are ‘green’ right down to their jockstraps

panda-dirtyIn an effort to leave no stone — or, in this case, no washing machine — unturned in the quest to be green, the Giants have ditched detergent in favor of herbatergent. Yes, there is such a thing.

The Giants are the first MLB team to sign with Berkeley-based VASKA, which produces eco-friendly detergents. According to American Laundry News (yes, there is such a thing) the products are “…made with top-quality biodegradable, noncarcinogenic botanical ingredients…”

Mike Murphy doesn’t often get quoted despite his fame as one of the top clubhouse managers in the bigs, but when it comes to laundry detergent, he’s the point man. He said the detergent “left the uniforms softer and smelling better than ever … we did not hesitate to use their products in our Clubhouse.”

Will the detergent get out the stains when the Panda rolls around in the dirt, or when Tim Lincecum spends all game wiping up his zits? Time will tell.
