The graph above, courtesy of FanGraphs, depicts the win probabilities for the Rockies and Giants at various states of last night’s nightmare. If you believe the doomsayers, the graph might also represent the last signs of the Giants’ playoff pulse. The latest odds put San Francisco’s playoff hopes at 7 percent. Of course, nobody would be writing the Giants’ eulogy if former Rockies draft pick Justin Miller hadn’t happened to implode during what were arguably his two most important appearances of the season. At least up until Saturday, Miller was enjoing a fine season. He had a 1.83 ERA entering the game and hadn’t allowed a run in nine straight appearaces. After last night’s debacle, his ERA ballooned to 2.96. Miller has allowed a total of 18 earned runs this season and exactly half of them have been given up in five appearances at Coors Field. Mercifully, the Giants don’t make another trip to Denver this year — at least not during the regular season.
