Pick-a-Penny: Judging by the fans’ reaction to the Giants’ decision to claim Brad Penny off waivers for pocket change, you’d think he was Sidney Ponson or something. Instead, he was solid in his first start with the Gi’nts, exorcising that dreaded Alyssa Milano curse.

If One Slam is Good…: Landon Powell’s slam against the Royals earlier in the week helped the A’s to a rare series win.
Big Money: The A’s are worth about $130 million a year to San Jose.
