C&E: Sept. 6

BASB’s weekly baseball roundup from both sides of the Bay — and an excuse to post a photo of Crazy Crab knocking Stomper off a tricycle.
CRABS UP
Welcome to The Show, Buster: The Giants shocked a lot of people with their decision to call up catching prospect Buster Posey. The hope is that the 2008 first-round pick can shock San Francisco’s comatose offense into gear.
Pick-a-Penny: Judging by the fans’ reaction to the Giants’ decision to claim Brad Penny off waivers for pocket change, you’d think he was Sidney Ponson or something. Instead, he was solid in his first start with the Gi’nts, exorcising that dreaded Alyssa Milano curse.
CRABS DOWN
Bowled Over: The Giants didn’t take too kindly to Cecil Fielder’s impersonation of a bowling ball.
Bunting 101: Aaron Rowand and Co. could use a refresher course in the art of the sacrifice.
ELEPHANTS UP
Slamtastic:Leave it to Scott Hairston to steal Ichiro Suzuki’s thunder. On the same day that Ichiro collected his 2,000th career hit, Hairston’s first career grand slam gave the A’s a 5-2 win.
If One Slam is Good…: Landon Powell’s slam against the Royals earlier in the week helped the A’s to a rare series win.
Big Money: The A’s are worth about $130 million a year to San Jose.
ELEPHANTS DOWN
You Can Take the A’s Out of Oakland…: While moving the A’s would be a boon for San Jose — and the designers of this fine t-shirt – leaving the residents of Oakland with only the Raiders and Dubs is just cruel.
