A fine account of a wonderful weekend of track. I was there. It was the high point of postwar United States track and field — and I don’t except Los Angeles 1984 or Atlanta 1996. Sadly it’s been all downhill since then. Why? Well, partly it’s because of people like the proprietors of this website. They call it the Bay Area Sports Blog, but they ignored — paid no whit of attention to — the most significant Bay Area athletic event of last weekend. The Pac-10 conference championships were held at Berkeley’s historic and lovely Edwards Field, one of the few arenas built just for track. It was a great meet featuring a number of competitive events and some fine performances and featuring, in particular, Oregon’s men’s and women’ teams, which both won– real teams with stars and depth in a lot of events, unlike most specialized college teams these days. Shame on the proprietors!
